The best salespeople don't think about selling.

You've memorised the closing techniques. You've learned rapport-building methods that feel forced the moment you try to use them. Maybe you've even absorbed the belief that sales requires a certain personality, and if you weren't born with it, you're stuck struggling forever.

None of that is true. Intelligent, capable people struggle with sales not because they lack knowledge, but because they've been taught techniques built on a fundamental misunderstanding of how influence actually works. People don't buy for the reasons they think they buy. Decisions are made emotionally, and only justified logically afterwards, which means most sales training is aimed at the wrong part of the process entirely.

Why more technique isn't the answer

After 24 years studying what actually influences behaviour, the pattern is consistent: the problem usually isn't a missing skill, it's conscious interference getting in the way of an ability that's already there. The harder someone tries to remember the right technique at the right moment, the more stilted and artificial they come across, and the worse they perform.

Proof it works

One Bangor car salesman I worked with had attended every sales course going, and stayed stubbornly mediocre regardless. So we didn't add another technique. We removed the interference instead. Within six weeks, his close rate had tripled, his stress had dropped off a cliff, and customers were requesting him by name. That's what selling without thinking about selling looks like.

Understanding how people actually make decisions, not how they think they make decisions, is where sales success actually lives.

What changes

This isn't more scripts to memorise or more pressure to perform. It's removing whatever's been sitting between your natural ability to connect with people and the results that ability should already be producing.

The close rate that climbs without you working harder for it. The stress that isn't part of every call anymore. Customers who ask for you specifically, because something about how you show up has genuinely changed.
